The 130 m long bridge spans across the Heilbronner Strasse situated in a hollow, thus connecting the Prag hill with the area around the Leitz Street. For this difficult urban situation the design aimed at a lightweight and transparent bridge. Since the Heilbronner Strasse is one of Stuttgart’s large access- and exit-roads, the bridge was intended as a gateway. Therefore, the final design called for a bridge with a concrete slab resting via vertical plates on a deep polygonal concrete arch. Two similar bridges, although these are equipped with tubular steel substructures, are located at the upper Prag Street respectively the upper Heilbronner Street. All three together appear as a virtual bridge family.
