The extension of the Airbus production site in Hamburg-Finkenwerder called for the construction of an assembly hall to manufacture sections for the long-range spacious Airbus A380. The structure consists of three essential elements:
Steel structure: Exterior two-hinged frames span across the hangar with a 10 m high trussed cross-tie on hinged supports. The interior auxiliary trusses support the roof consisting of purlins, trapezoid metal sheet, insulation and asphalt sheeting. The truss members are welded S355 steel box-girders. The eastern facade is a steel-metal-sheet structure.
Concrete structure: Cross-wings along each side of the hall with the offices and the supply storage. The hall floor rests on a beam grid supported by piles. The reinforced concrete fire wall makes up the western facade.
Basic dimensions: 120 × 240 m
Heights of the structure:
Main trussed girder: 36 m O.K.
Roof skin: 25 m O.K.
Auxiliary trussed girder: 21 m U.K.
Gross floor area: 27,360 qm
Span: 120 m
