The city at Broadmead Bristol with department store, retail buildings and a leisure centre is redeveloped and sheltered using glassed roofs. The central roof is a single layer doubly curved grid shell of a domed shape without additional cable trusses underneath the shell. The maximum span of this shell is approx. 58 m and approx. 40 m in the shorter direction. The mesh size varies from 1.5 m x 1.0 m to 1.5 m x 2.0 m. The several street roofs are single layer double curved grid shells which act more like barrel vaults. The street roofs are only supported at the two longitudinal edges and have a maximum span of approximately 12 m. The mesh size varies from 1.4 m x 1.2 m to 1.75 m x 1.5 m.
