The new airport at Berlin-Schönefeld is currently one of the largest infrastructure projects in Europe. For the design of the flight guest terminals the client is demanding a transparent and inter-disciplinary planning process. The envelope of the terminal structure is created by the roof slab, framed by the transparent room-high facade and by the adjacent pier building along the west side of the building. The roof structure consists of a planar truss with a height of approx. 4 m, which is supported by pendulum columns on a grid of 43.75 m and stiffened horizontally by the reinforced concrete structure at two fixed points. It rests on the adjacent concrete structure of the reinforced concrete structure placed inside, the pier building as well as the lower levels. The glazing of the pre-tensioned cable girder facades is carried by the horizontal beam sections.
Main terminal: 200 m / 240 m / 25 m
Pier building: 35 m / 660 m / 20 m and
