The roof structure of the World Cup stadium combines several structural principles to achieve the desired shape, reminiscent of the large sailing ships anchored in this large harbour city.
The arrangement of the masts in plan and in height accommodates perfectly the high grandstands and the low stands in the curves.
The membrane with its fields of up to 1,500 m² is designed as a high point membrane with additional arch supports in the interior. It is visibly reinforced at the high points to counteract the concentrated
loads due to the impact of snow and wind. This is an important feature for the spectators and gives the stadium its nick name: twenty-four Stars.
Seats: 52,000
Total building area: 290,000 m²
Roof: 32,500 m² roof plan area, cable net and tension membrane roof, glass and PTFE membrane
