Last week the Inselbrücke in Riedlingen was inaugurated in the presence of city mayor Markus Schafft and the State Secretary Friedlinde Gurr-Hirsch.
The bridge connects the Danube Island with the city district next to the townhall of Riedlingen and was originally constructed as a temporary bridge until the completion of the roadbridge over the flood canal. By developing the area next to the bridge into a nature and leisure park the bridge became part of the new landscape concept and now offers access to tourists and locals to the Danube Island. It spans 37,5 m in total and was constructed in different modules. For the walkway and railing a steel grating was chosen to emphasize the transparency, lightness, and economic efficiency of the bridge.
schlaich bergermann partner is also involved in the planning of the roadbridge in the direct neighborhood which design is based on a competition win in 2004.
