We designed a canopy structure over the historic Milk Market in Limmerick in conjunction with Healy & Partners Architects, which was constructed last year. The courtyard is now protected by a 1400 m² membrane roof, supported by only one eccentrically aligned mast that is tensioned to the four corners of the courtyard, without touching the historic building. The requirement to create an open but well protected space with an open-air market atmosphere was achieved so well, that the project won the Irish Architecture Award 2011 in the category People’s Choice.
