The 4th bridge across the Danube river in Linz is part of the major infrastructure project A26 bypass West.
The precipices of the Danube valley allow a direct anchorage of the main cables, without pylons. The 4-lane highway bridge is designed as a real suspension bridge. The super-structure is designed as a steel compound construction with one central steel box girder and steel cross girders. Each of the main cable bundles is made of 12 fully locked and heavy galvanized spiral cables. The cable clamps are cast elements.
Thanks to the unique circumstances, the result is a very slender and transparent construction, perfectly adapting to the beautiful landscape of the Danube valley.
