Footbridge over Rhine-Main-Danube Channel at Keilheim

In Kelheim (Bavaria) the extension of the river Altmuehl to the Main-Danube-Channel required a footbridge with a clearance diagram of 61.84 m x 7.6 m. An additional challenge was the minimum ramp length of 30 m which was a result of the maximum slope of 10%. An advantage was the possibility to use a scaffolding for the production, because the bridge could be built before the completion of the channel.
Thus the curved design could be developed, distinguished by a very slender pre-stressed concrete girder and suspended one-sided on a spatial cable structure. The main cable is redirected via two tubular steel poles and is anchored in the abutments. An experience of a three-dimensional structure is given to the pedestrian by the permanently varying inclination of the suspenders.
