International Garden Exhibition 1993 - Bridge at Train Station North

Stuttgart, Germany, 1992

Two bridges ("Train Station North" and "Heilbronner Strasse") are the connection between two parks, crossing a huge railway area and a highly frequented main road. The mast of the bigger bridge is placed in the crossing point of three arms, so that it is balanced only by the main cables, which lead in three pairs to its top. A saddle for guiding the cables over the mast top would have resulted in a very unshaped appearance. This is why the six cable halves of the bridge at train station north are linked in pairs and anchored to the mast top by short single cables.
