Tower at the Fair of Rostock

© HG Esch

This tower, which is probably the highest tensegrity structure built so far is the new symbol of the Rostock fair and the international garden exhibition (IGA 2003) which surrounds it. The tower consists of six so-called twist elements of 8.3 m height, each made of three steel tubes which are stabilised by three diagonal cables and three horizontal cables. Together with the stainless steel needle placed on top, this sculpture reaches a height of 62.3 m.
