Wind Tunnel Efficiency Centre for Volkswagen – check engineering

© Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft

With the new Wind Tunnel Efficiency Centre on the premises of their plant in Wolfsburg, Volkswagen AG expands its research department of aerodynamics by two large wind tunnels. The Aerodynamics Acoustics Tunnel will be the world’s quietest wind tunnel in the automotive industry; the Thermo Function Tunnel serves to generate various environmental and climatic conditions, such as sun, rain, and snow, at temperatures between minus 30 and plus 55 degrees Celsius. Both functional buildings are made exclusively from reinforced concrete; the Aerodynamics Acoustics Tunnel is additionally clad with internal and external sheet metal lining. The third part of the complex comprises a workshop and office building that features an envelope made of vertical metal lamellas.
