Scope of our work
Conceptual design, detailed design, site supervision
The project involved the construction of two 50 kW dish/Stirling systems close to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. These were the first large concentrators built using metal membrane technology, and they still are the largest dish/Stirling systems worldwide. The highly efficient Stirling motors were equipped for solar operation for the first time and a very innovative, state of the art drive and control system was developed.
The units are fully grid independent and were operated continuously until the mid 90s.
Concentrator diameter: 17 m
Reflecting area: 227 m²
Average concentration factor: 600
Suspension: azimuthal
Control system: fully automatic
Stirling engine: United Stirling 4-275
Type: 4-cylinder, double acting
Working gas: hydrogen
