Sven Plieninger

Personal Profile

Sven Plieninger has been a partner at schlaich bergermann partner since 2000. Sven studied civil engineering at the University of Stuttgart until 1991 when he joined schlaich bergermann partner in Stuttgart as an engineer. He is also managing director of schlaich bergermann partner’s office in Shanghai, which was founded in 2012.

Under his leadership, versatile and complex projects have been realized worldwide, in collaboration with his international team. As a specialist in lightweight, long-span structures and special building projects, he has helped to design a large number of award-winning buildings and structures, especially in the Asian region. These include the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center, the glass roof of the Jinji Lake development in Suzhou and the Hemei Bridge in Xiamen. Sven and his team are also experts in the field of timber engineering. He recently completed the design and realization of the new Ruhestein Visitor Center in the Black Forest National Park – a modern, hybrid structure made of timber and steel – as well as the modular timber construction of the Gasteig HP8 Interim Quarter in Munich.

Sven Plieninger regularly lectures at universities and professional conferences on lightweight construction and is the author of numerous publications in this field.
