For many years, schlaich bergermann partner has been active in Hamburg with ambitious projects – from iconic roof structures to forward-looking infrastructure. In the Hanseatic city, we combine our expertise in design and structural engineering with the unique atmosphere of a city on the water:
The story of sbp in Hamburg began as early as the 1970s with the Alsterschwimmhalle. Its extraordinary hypar shell roof, for which our founding partner Jörg Schlaich was part of the design team, makes it both an architectural and engineering landmark. With the refurbishment and extension of the listed Alsterschwimmhalle, we were able to reconnect with our roots in Hamburg. In the following decades, additional identity-defining projects were added, such as the roof of the Volksparkstadion, the central bus station (ZOB), the Kampnagel cultural center, the Entenwerder pedestrian and cycle bridge, as well as the Elbbrücken metro and suburban railway stations, whose extension towards Grasbrook is currently being planned by our office.
Our constant focus: light and efficient structures and sustainable solutions that will enrich Hamburg in the long term.
Office opening in Hamburg
Since June 2026, sbp has had its own office in Hamburg. This brings us even closer to our projects, clients, and planning partners on site and enables us to support the dynamic development of the Hamburg metropolitan region on a long-term basis. The new office strengthens our presence in northern Germany and forms an important hub for future engineering projects in the Hanseatic city and beyond.

Hamburg is undergoing continuous change – new districts, denser mobility networks, and the upgrading of existing public spaces are shaping the city’s development. sbp supports these processes with integrated structural solutions that bring together mobility, urban identity, and sustainability.
