The history of schlaich bergermann partner began more than 40 years ago in the heart of Stuttgart. To this day, we have strong ties to the capital of Baden-Württemberg and have our headquarters here.

Based on over 40 years of experience in structural engineering in Saudi Arabia – beginning in 1985 with the construction of the iconic King Fahd International Stadium – we are continuing to expand our activities and presence in the region. Our branch office in Riyadh strengthens our commitment to Saudi Arabia and the entire region.

We have been located in Berlin since 2005. After Mike Schlaich was appointed professor at the Technical University of Berlin, Department of Design and Construction - Solid Structures, and was also recognized as a test engineer for structural analysis, the establishment of the office in Berlin was a logical step for us.

Although the design for One World Trade Center officially established sbp’s New York office, it was the Williamsburg Bridge that first drew us to New York in 1988. Taking 1st prize in an international design competition to replace the historic structure with an inventive hybrid suspension and cable-stayed bridge design, we got our first taste of working in the Big Apple. In 2005, we returned to New York to establish roots at a small office on West 21st Street in the Flatiron District, making it sbp’s first location outside of Europe.

schlaich bergermann partner has been involved in construction projects in Asia for over 20 years. The establishment of our office in Shanghai was the logical step for us to be present on site for our clients and planning partners. The focus is on extraordinary and challenging architecture in the field of bridges, exhibition halls, sports facilities and high-rise buildings.

What began with two outstanding projects in France—the Passerelle de la Paix in Lyon and the pedestrian bridge to Mont Saint-Michel—soon evolved into a lasting commitment: These achievements laid the foundation for our permanent presence in Paris in 2015. Since then, our Paris office has built a strong reputation for structural innovation and sustainable design, becoming a valued partner within the French construction and engineering industry.

For more than 30 years we have been active in Spanish-speaking countries and with Spanish partners all over the world. Our office in Madrid enables us to provide intensive support to our friends, planning partners and projects directly on site. In our centrally located office, opposite the Parque de El Retiro, our experienced team designs and plans innovative engineering structures. In addition to sports facilities, bridges and facades, building structures and roofing fill our project portfolio.

With our growing presence in Los Angeles, we bring additional expertise to the West Coast of the United States for our clients and partners. Working in close coordination with our New York office, we look to bring exciting structures to life.
