The Weinberg Bridge in Rathenow

The Weinberg Bridge in Rathenow
sbp 01.02.2016

The "Weinberg Bridge" in the city of Rathenow some 70 km away from Berlin is an integral lightweight footbridge of 350 m length. It is characterized by two main spans which are carried by inclined arches and it consists of a slender steel box deck with a concrete slab lying on top for dynamic reasons, concrete-filled tied arches and tree type columns also made of steel. The bridge was opened in 2015 for the Federal Garden Show (BUGA) which took place in the region. It is S-shaped in plan and is carefully integrated in the park like area around the river Havel it crosses. The bridge will play its legacy role for the local infrastructure and "Baukultur" also after the exhibition.

In the paper, the conceptual and structural design as well as its construction will be described. The load bearing behaviour of inclined arches will also be treated shortly.
