Brandenburg Baukultur Award 2025 for the Oder Bridge Küstrin

We are proud and delighted: The new railway bridge over the Oder River at Küstrin has been honored with the Brandenburg Baukultur Award 2025!

This award recognizes not just a bridge, but a vision: connecting nations, embracing sustainability, and shaping engineering excellence at the highest level.

As schlaich bergermann partner, we played a key role:

  • Execution of the superstructure
  • Construction supervision
  • Development and implementation of innovative carbon hangers

The carbon hangers – used for the first time on a railway bridge – reduce weight, improve durability, and enable a slender, elegant design. Combined with the network arch structure and its sensitive integration into the landscape, the Oder Bridge is a symbol of progress and collaboration.

Voices on the Baukultur Award:

Ina Bartmann, State Secretary for Construction:
“With the Baukultur Award, we honor outstanding projects that contribute to the acceptance and visibility of good Baukultur and address current challenges. Baukultur is essential for our cities and for people’s identification with their surroundings. It connects past and future. In view of climate change, we must build more sustainably and resiliently.”

Andreas Rieger, President of the Brandenburg Chamber of Architects:
“More Baukultur is a gain for all citizens. This year, the jury honored an outstanding civil engineering project. The Baukultur Award shows: More Baukultur means more quality of life.”

Matthias Krebs, President of the Brandenburg Chamber of Engineers:
“The award for the Oder railway bridge is a strong signal that Baukultur goes far beyond building design. The first-ever use of carbon hangers on a railway bridge, the clear structural concept, and the sensitive integration into the landscape show how interdisciplinary teams create high-level quality.”
