We are happy to announce that the responsible county council Böblingen has confirmed the construction of the observation tower in the nature park Schönbuch near Stuttgart. As the construction is scheduled to begin this summer the opening to the public will take place next spring. schlaich bergermann partner was responsible for the feasibility study, structural engineering and design of the tower.
With the choice of native larch wood and its delicate appearance the cable-net tower fits well in the surrounding nature. The 580 meter high Stellberg hill was chosen as a suitable location which also offers other tourist attractions in the surrounding. Two stairways offer a way up to three different platforms of which the highest one is 30 meters above ground. The light-weight structure widens upwardly so that the upper platform is at the same time the biggest one with a diameter of 12 meters. The view from up there rewards the visitor with a spectacular panoramic view on the Black Forest and the Swabian Alb.
