Knut Göppert awarded honorary doctorate

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) awarded an honorary doctorate to Knut Göppert, a partner and board member at schlaich bergermann partner. The ceremony took place last Friday at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Geo and Environmental Sciences. Numerous invited guests were in attendance, including business partners, colleagues and family members. The certificate was presented by the dean, Professor Hansjörg Kutterer. Professor Thomas Ummenhofer delivered the laudatory speech.

‘Today, we are honoured to recognise a civil engineer whose work impresses not only with its technical excellence, but also with its cultural significance,’ emphasised Professor Kutterer in his speech. Professor Ummenhofer added in his speech: ‘By awarding the honorary doctorate to Dipl.-Ing. Knut Göppert, our faculty is honouring a designer of space, a pioneer in lightweight construction, and a bridge builder in both the literal and figurative senses.’

The KIT-Department of Civil Engineering, Geo and Environmental Sciences only awards honorary doctorates to selected personalities. Knut Göppert is now among an elite group that includes astronaut Dr. Alexander Gerst, who received the award in 2019.
