Prof. Dr. sc. techn. Mike Schlaich bids Farewell to TU Berlin

After more than 20 years of teaching and research at Technische Universität Berlin, Mike Schlaich has officially concluded his academic career with a farewell lecture. Since October 1, 2004, he held the Chair of Conceptual and Structural Design at the Department of Civil Engineering, where he significantly shaped both the education of a generation of students and the progress of structural engineering research.

In his farewell lecture, Mike Schlaich reflected on two decades of academic work together with colleagues, long-time companions, friends, and family. He not only revisited key projects and developments but also offered personal insights into his own professional journey with openness and authenticity. His passion for building culture, sustainability, and the integration of theory and practice was evident throughout.

At the end of September 2025, Mike Schlaich stepped down from his university role. At schlaich bergermann partner, we are pleased that he is now fully dedicating himself once again to his position as Board Member in our office. With his extensive experience, academic background, and enthusiasm for structural engineering, he will continue to contribute valuable impulses to our projects and team.

The evening concluded with an informal gathering, where guests raised a glass to his achievements – a moment of appreciation, shared memories, and inspiring conversations.
