Progress on the expansion of the Stade Gabriel Montpied
Currently, construction work on the expansion of the Stade Gabriel Montpied in Clermont-Ferrand is progressing.
In the past few days, the first steel truss girders for the new roof were successfully lifted into place using a 500-ton crane. The extension is being carried out in several phases with the aim of increasing the capacity of the stadium of the Clermont Foot soccer football club to 30,000 seats.
Together with the architects from Atelier Ferret Architecture, sbp won the competition for the project in 2019. Work has now begun on the main roof structure, which consists of 38 steel trusses and a PVC membrane. It will mostly cover the the brand-new east stands and cantilevers up to 43 meters above the pitch at the centre. The main stand, which has been in place since 1995, will remain largely unchanged.
The roof is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2025. This will be followed by the expansion of the South Stand and the extension of the North Stand in order to prepare the stadium for the future and offer Clermont Foot fans an even better stadium experience.
