RIBA International Awards for Excellence 2026

We are honoured that three projects recognised with the RIBA International Awards for Excellence 2026 showcase schlaich bergermann partner’s structural engineering.

For all three projects, sbp supported the design teams from the very first conceptual sketches developed during the competition stage. Working in close collaboration with the architects throughout the design process, we contributed smart, efficient, and buildable structural engineering solutions that reinforce and enable the architectural vision, helping to transform ambitious concepts into elegant and technically robust realities.

Shenzhen Energy Ring: sbp engineered the primary long-span structural system supporting the architectural form and façade lamellas, developing an efficient space-frame solution through careful optimization of support locations and consideration of the complex boundary conditions inherent to a large-scale industrial facility.

Shanghai Library East: sbp developed the structural system comprising a braced inner core, large roof-level trusses, and suspended perimeter zones, creating open, reconfigurable interiors and an efficient force flow that allows the library to visually float above the surrounding park landscape.

Beijing Performing Arts Center: sbp developed a structural system of concrete acoustic volumes, surrounding steel-framed structures defining the gently curved building form, and lightweight suspended façade elements reminiscent of sails, creating generous and transparent foyer spaces throughout the project.
