Yesterday the second last launch of the Neckar bridge in Stuttgart took place. Hydraulic presses pushed the whole structure 20 meters further across the river within three hours, so that the bridge finally reached the other bank.
The first launch did only take place mid of August last year. In recent months 235 m of the 345 m long bridge next to Bad Cannstatt were assembled on an elevated platform measuring approx. 30 m x 60 m and afterwards pushed across the river in 14 phases.
Meanwhile, the striking steel sails that characterize the bridge design are already clearly visible from the distance.
