The new pedestrian and cycle bridge provides a cyclist-friendly connection across the heavily trafficked Panzerstraße, linking the high-speed cycle route with the surrounding infrastructure.
The bridge follows a smooth, flowing alignment, guiding users from Römerstraße up and over the road. The routing was carefully designed to make use of the steep topography and minimize the overall span length of the bridge crossing.
The structure consists of a slender steel box girder with laterally cantilevered sections supporting the deck. It is carried by slim steel columns. Over the main span above Panzerstraße, the box girder is supported by a steel arch positioned on the outside of the deck. The arch is connected to the superstructure by rib-like steel struts.
The superstructure is monolithically connected to both the fixed columns and the abutments. The approach areas between the abutments and the existing paths are designed as embankments with asphalt surfacing — ensuring a cost-effective and user-friendly solution for cyclists.
As ambient lighting levels in the area are very low, integrated handrail lighting has been installed along the bridge to ensure a safe and well-lit crossing at all times.
