As part of the extension of the Spree cycling and hiking trail to its confluence with the River Havel, an additional crossing over the River Spree is required. This will be realised as a slender, asymmetrical steel arch bridge with elongated ramps on both riverbanks. The arch bridge is stabilised by a partially external tension tie.
The integral ramp on the northern bank follows a sinuous path and is embedded within a newly created park and ecological compensation area. It consists of a reinforced concrete slab supported by slender steel columns. On the southern bank, a 600-metre-long, semi-integral ramp runs along the Spree embankment, bridging various pipelines and outlet structures of the adjacent wastewater treatment plant.
With its clear lines and sensitive integration into the surrounding landscape, the bridge presents a reduced and refined design language. It blends naturally into its context while making a confident architectural statement.
