The CAMERICH (Jiaxing) Mega Factory is located in the Nanhu District of Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province. The water tower, located at the northwestern corner of the campus, is an essential part of the fire protection infrastructure of the building complex providing pressurized water for the sprinkler system. As the highest building on campus, the water tower with its viewing platform, has become a local landmark.
Inspired by the poem “a cloud is a lake in the sky”, the water tank was given a cloud-like shape consisting of convex arches with different curvatures, which also contribute to the overall stability of the structure under water and wind loads. The water tank is composed of a steel base frame, a 4 mm bottom plate, a box girder frame, and profiled steel plates for the facade and top. The cloud-shaped curtain wall envelops the water tank and the beams inside. The dead load of the curtain wall and the horizontal load acting on it are transferred via the corbels with bolted connections to the outer and inner edge beams at the top of the water tank.
The main structure of the water tower consists of cantilever beams, a total of 12 inclined columns and 30 cross struts. The water inlet and outlet pipes are hidden between the columns, which are arranged in an A-shape. The arrangement of the columns and crossbars has been carefully thought out and calculated to achieve both a dynamic and appealing visual effect and an orderly and efficient structure.
