The Culture and Sports Center with club center is located on the outskirts of Süßen, between a commercial and residential area on the site of the former worsted spinning mill. The room program includes a foyer with a bar, a cultural hall, a kitchen and a sports hall that can be divided into three sections with a grandstand and a changing area. Two large gymnastics rooms on the first floor complete the space available for athletes.
The façade of the building is characterized by an exciting alternation of large glass surfaces, translucent polycarbonate and effective plaster surfaces with a comb finish. The interior is dominated by exposed concrete surfaces.
The new building was designed as a 2-storey reinforced concrete structure in in-situ concrete construction and for the wide-span roofs as a timber construction with wide-span glulam trusses and a trapezoidal sheet metal roof covering. The entire structure is constructed without joints. In the sports club center and in the sports hall, room structures of different sizes are stacked on top of each other on the ground floor and first floor. For load transfer, the existing room partition walls are designed as wall-like beams and the bearing loads are transferred to individual highly loaded columns.
