On the former ThyssenKrupp Schulte site at Weidmannstraße 26 in Hamburg-Altona, a new quarter is being developed directly opposite the future long-distance train station Diebsteich. With the planned relocation of the Altona long-distance station by 2027, the approximately 4.7-hectare site is set to play a key role: the plans include a regional league stadium, a music hall with around 5,000 seats, office space, and additional commercial uses.
The design comprises four components. In the east, the new stadium with its surrounding development, underground car park, ground-floor commercial spaces, and two office blocks forms the main focus; an adjoining sports building accommodates additional club and sports facilities such as a climbing hall. In the centre, an existing warehouse is being converted into the Hamburg Music Hall, with a new auditorium for around 5,000 people inserted as a self-standing new structure. In the west, an office and commercial building is being constructed as an urban counterpart to the glass station towers. The ensemble is completed by the historic administration building with two gatehouses, which will be refurbished, repurposed, and integrated as a key element of the site’s identity.
