The renovation and new construction of the Albert Bath in Bad Elster includes, in addition to a bathing hall made of steel and glass, an information pavilion and a new therapy building. Above all, the new bathing hall, through the choice of materials, shows the careful handling of the historical building fabric. Together with the very sophisticated redesign of the entire courtyard area, it forms a new attraction of the facility.
The double-shell glass façade of the bathing hall is held by a conventional post-and-beam construction made of steel. In line with a specially developed energy concept, the hall’s roof was also constructed with a double glass shell, with the outer shell being slightly inclined for the purpose of roof drainage and the inner shell consisting of adjustable glass lamellae. The structure is held by a steel girder grid. The load-bearing glass secondary beams are a special feature of this supporting structure.
