The existing Volksparkstadion was modernized for the EURO 2024. The 20-year-old roof membrane was replaced and the entire roof structure was verified with increased snow loads in accordance with current standards. Due to the increased loads from snow and technical equipment, individual components of the roof structure had to be reinforced. In addition, the technical equipment in the roof was completely renewed and corresponding new cable routes were planned and implemented in the roof. A visual highlight is the new lighting system, which can illuminate the stadium with atmospheric light.
