Pavillon Experimenta

© Jan Bitter

To expand the exhibition space, a temporary pavilion dedicated to the theme of Artificial Intelligence (AI) was constructed on the forecourt of the Experimenta. The structure is located near the waterfront area, nestled between the trees at the edge of the Experimenta forecourt, and is elevated on slender piles to emphasize its temporary character.
The pavilion is designed to be fully dismantled after its limited period of use and reassembled at a different location. Sustainability and mobility are key priorities, which is why wood was chosen as the primary building material. The planar components, including the ceiling, floor, and walls, are made from flat and curved CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) elements, each sized for transport with a width of less than 3 meters.
The joining technique predominantly follows traditional carpentry methods, using notches and mortise-and-tenon joints to ensure easy assembly and disassembly. The facade facing the Experimenta forecourt is infilled with translucent polycarbonate panels between the wooden supports, providing a lightweight and light-permeable design.
