Qianhai Linhai-Guiwan River Bridge

© TAL

The new road bridge in the Qianhai district is designed as a striking double-arch bridge and crosses a small river and a public park. It has four lanes in each direction, as well as cycle and footpaths along the outer cantilever sections. The main arch of the bridge spans the river, while the side arch spans the park. The bridge deck is slender to open up the view of the park landscape. One of the major challenges of the project was the site conditions. Several traffic tunnels run under the property, which complicated the placement of the supports. The bridge’s support points had to be minimized and placed along the outer edge of the bridge. Three light openings in the bridge deck allow daylight to reach the park below the bridge and also serve to separate the traffic areas from the pedestrian areas. With its iconic bridge design, the Qianhai Linhai-Guiwan Bridge marks one of the most important bridge locations in the Qianhai district along the waterfront.
