Shanghai Business School (SBS) and the École hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) founded the College of Shanghai Lausanne Hospitality Management (SLH) in 2021. The site on Caobao Road in Shanghai’s Xuhui district, which has been used as a university campus since the 1950s, was renovated and expanded for SLH. The axial arrangement of the historic building, consisting of three parallel axes, was retained and supplemented with new buildings to create a modern campus.
Starting from the entrance building, a historic structure from 1955, the central axis with the educational buildings, which are connected to each other via a circular atrium, extends to the north. The hall of residence on the west side will be retained and further buildings for student life will be added to the north. The existing buildings on the east side will be converted and extended into a hotel with conference areas for training purposes.
The Caobao Road Campus is designed as an eco-campus. The concept includes, for example, the reuse of building materials from the existing buildings, the extensive preservation of existing trees, the storage and use of rainwater, the greening of roof surfaces, natural ventilation and the use of photovoltaics.
