The thermal baths for leisure and wellness, opened in 2005, is located in the village of Burg in the Spreewald and includes a sauna, fitness, restaurant and administration area.
The indoor swimming pool hall roof consists of a biaxial steel girder grid with laminated timber secondary beams and a covering of timber based panels. A glazed roof structure made of slender Kerto beams is located above the brine area.
The pools were constructed using the waterproof construction method. The higher parts of the building and the outdoor pools were founded on the foundation level of the lower-lying basement floor slab in the load-bearing sands via unreinforced concrete columns. The changing and administration area is designed as a reinforced concrete skeleton construction with slender steel composite columns. Due to the high groundwater level, the basement was designed as a “white tub”. Architecturally, a thatched roof was arranged in some areas of the exterior walls, which was realized using a suspended steel construction.
