The Salinarium recreational baths is located right next to the spa gardens in Bad Dürkheim. The new thermal spa is being built in part of the outdoor pool area, southeast of the existing indoor pool and the outdoor sports pool. An extension from the 1990s as well as a small outdoor saltwater pool will be demolished for this purpose.
The conversion and extension measures in the existing Salinarium include the redesign of the entrance area on the ground floor with a cantilevered roof and the large-scale expansion of the changing rooms for the users of the newly designed thermal spa. Along the southwest façade of the existing bathing hall, the so-called “bathrobe corridor” is being built on the ground floor as a transition to the new thermal spa. The extension will have a partial basement to accommodate areas for pool water technical facilities as well as for the delivery and a service yard. Between the existing bathing hall and the outdoor swimmers’ pool, a massive 13-meter-high slide tower will be built for two slide systems with associated landing pools.
The existing recreational baths and outdoor area will remain in operation throughout almost the entire construction period. The simultaneous construction activities on three sides of the existing building complex and the structural realization of the transitions along the existing facades place high demands on planning and construction logistics.
