Commendation for road bridge in Austria
sbp 13.11.2019

The bridge design created by Riegler Riewe Architects and schlaich bergermann partner as part of the competition for the Tegetthoff bridge in Graz, Austria, has been awarded with a commendation. The 64 m long road bridge, which also features a tramline, crosses the river Mur. For the replacement of the inner-city bridge, a total of 21 interdisciplinary teams had submitted proposals.

The static principle of the design is the so-called “Langer's girder”a bridge with self-anchored arches and a suspended deck beam. The arch reaches up to 23 m in height.

The jury praised the economical, minimal heights of the deck girders and the extremely slim cross-section of the supporting arches.
