Darul Hana Bridge

Kuching, Malaysia, 2017

The city of Kuching on the island of Borneo is divided by the Sarawak river. To connect the City North with the City South, the "Harmony Bridge" was erected. It is designed in reference to the idea of Yin and Yang: an S-shaped, curved bridge with two masts, inclined in opposite directions, symbolizes the balance of cultures living together.
The loadbearing structure of the cable-stayed bridge consists of a curved, one-side supported steel tube truss superstructure with two outwards inclined steel masts. The walkway is made of precast concrete slabs. Several resting areas invite pedestrians to enjoy a spectacular panoramic view over the river, the city and the State Legislative Assembly Building with its distinctive "umbrella" roof.
The now called "Golden Bridge" was erected by means of the balanced cantilever method. The last steel segment of the deck was lifted in place in June 2017.
