2006年的世界杯足球赛给历史悠久的森林体育场带来了一个全新改建的机会。新的体育场要求给比赛场提供一个可开启关闭的活动屋顶。
不活动部分的屋盖结构由一个外压环两个内拉环组成，内外环之间由44根径向布置得索桁架组成。为了和看台形状相吻合，内环在四个角部为折线。不活动部分的屋盖上覆半透明的膜材，前端是透明的聚碳酸酯板。
中央可开启的屋盖由径向索桁架内侧开始汇集到中央的一个点。屋盖开启的时候，屋盖的膜可以聚拢到悬挂在场地中央的视频结构中。
