Modernisierung der Avicii-Arena in Stockholm

Die Stockholm Globe Arena Fastigheter AB (SGAF) hat auf Basis der Vorentscheidungen des Stockholmer Stadtrats ein internationales Team beauftragt, das sie bei der Neugestaltung der Avicii-Arena in Stockholm, Schweden unterstützt. Als Teil des multidisziplinären Teams, geleitet von Legends International, ist schlaich bergermann partner für das Tragwerkskonzept der neuen Avicii-Arena verantwortlich.

 

Das neue Tragwerkskonzept des „Globen“

Das Konzept der neuen Konstruktion für die Avicii-Arena gliedert sich in fünf Schlüsselbereiche, die den Globen in einen modernen Veranstaltungsort verwandeln und das Erlebnis für Besucher und Besucherinnen von Konzerten, Veranstaltungen und Sportevents verbessert.

In einem andauernden Prozess wird zunächst das bestehende Tragwerk des Globen untersucht, um Aufbau, Geometrie und Traglast der Konstruktion zu erfassen. Mit Hilfe der Ausführungs-
zeichnungen, den Archivplänen und einer Fotoanalyse wird schließlich ein 3D-Modell des aktuellen Zustands erstellt. Für die Neugestaltung werden verschiedene Komponenten der bestehenden Struktur abgerissen oder teilweise abgebaut und für die Nachrüstung der Arena wiederverwendet.

Der neue Entwurf sieht eine Erweiterung des Globen vor und sitzt auf den Radialrippen der bestehenden Konstruktion an den Radialachsen auf. Druckring, Radialstäbe, ein gewellter Innenring und die innere Seilnetzkonstruktion bilden die Primärstruktur aus Stahl. Am gewellten Innenring sind Gondeln aus Holz als Dauerlasten abgehängt, die Sitzplätze in besonderer Nähe zur Bühne bieten. Für den sich daraus ergebenden “Spannungszustand” wird die Struktur numerisch geformt und zu einer effizienten, leichten Konstruktion optimiert.

Flexible, bewegliche Paneele dienen als akustische Zwischenebene, mit der sich die Nachhallzeit für verschiedene Arten von Veranstaltungen anpassen lässt. Bei Nichtbenutzung können diese außerhalb des Sichtfelds geparkt werden, um so den Besucherinnen und Besuchern freien Blick in die beeindruckende Kuppel des Globen zu gewähren. Die Seilnetzunterkonstruktion der Paneele wird neben dem neuen Bühnenrigg auch als flexible Riggingzone genutzt.

  • Ramboll (engineering): Across the world, Ramboll’s 16,000 experts combine local experience with a global knowledge base to create sustainable cities and societies. In this project, Ramboll are leading building services engineers, including, for example, MEP, fire safety, sustainability, and 3D scanning expertise. Ramboll Sweden and Ramboll UK collaborate on this project, delivering enduring and resource-efficient solutions. Previous experience for the Ramboll team include work on the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Tampere Arena, Finland.
  • Efterklang (acoustics): Based in Europe with a team of over 130 engineers with architectural, musical and physics backgrounds, Efterklang is appointed to design the acoustics for the arena. With a long running track record designing sports arenas and live performance venues, they work to optimise the sonic experience of live events by careful design of architectural form, materials and sound systems. Their recent work includes the new Bratislava Congress Center and they have provided acoustic designs for several sports arenas in the Nordics including the Swedish Hockey Stadiums in Skellefteå, Karlstad, and Umeå.
  • Light Bureau (lighting): Having recently completed award-winning lighting projects such as The Twist at Kistefos Museum in Norway, Maggie’s Cancer Care Center in Leeds, and the restoration of the Sammy Ofer Centre in London, Light Bureau has been appointed as the lighting designer at Avicii Arena. Light Bureau is a design studio based in London & Oslo and has a portfolio of projects worldwide that showcase elegance and innovation in lighting.
  • AFRY (cost management): AFRY are a European leader in engineering, design, and advisory services, with a global reach. Since 2017, AFRY has provided cost calculation for the Globe Arena and has a history with the project throughout its lifetime. AFRY has consulted on many of the major stadiums in the Nordic countries including Tele2 Arena and Friends Arena in Stockholm.
  • Movement Strategies (crowd dynamics): Movement Strategies, part of the GHD group of companies, is the world’s leading crowd dynamics consultancy, advising new-build and existing sports and entertainment venues, major events, transport and cultural venues globally. Long term clients include Liverpool Football Club (Anfield), The FA (Wembley Stadium), and AELTC (The Wimbledon Championships).

 

Über die Avicii-Arena

Die Avicii-Arena gehört seit ihrer Einweihung im Jahr 1989 zu den Wahrzeichen von Stockholm. Mit einem Volumen von 605.000 m³ ist sie das größte kugelförmige Gebäude der Welt. Die Arena dient als Schwedens nationale Eishockey-Arena, ist aber auch Ort für eine Vielzahl von Konzerten und anderen Veranstaltungen. Im Laufe der Jahre waren hier schon einige der größten Künstler und Künstlerinnen der Welt zu Gast: die Rolling Stones, Metallica, Beyoncé, Madonna und U2 – um nur einige zu nennen. Die Aussicht von The Skyview, einer Gondel, die außen an der Kuppel entlangführt, bietet einen spektakulären Blick auf den Süden der schwedischen Hauptstadt. Vor kurzem wurde die Avicii-Arena außerdem als Austragungsort für das Finale der Eishockey-Weltmeisterschaft 2025 (IIHF) bekannt gegeben.
