Last weekend, the extension of Stuttgart’s U6 light rail line officially started its service – along with our tram bridge “Stadtbahnbrücke” crossing highway A8! The first train crossed the network arch bridge at 3:45 p.m., regular service of the rail line then started from 4:45 p.m. onwards.
The new line now connects Gerlingen, Stuttgart city center and the airport – thereby the train also crosses the light rail arch bridge, the first bridge of its kind worldwide, as suspension cables made of carbon fibers are used for the first time on the free-standing steel arches.
