Michael Werwigk

Personal Profile

Following his apprenticeship as a carpenter, Michael Werwigk studied civil engineering at the University of Stuttgart and the University of Calgary in Canada. After gaining his first professional experience as a civil engineer in Iceland, he joined schlaich bergermann partner in Stuttgart in 1992. Under his leadership, numerous buildings, bridges and membrane structures were completed, which are still characteristic of sbp today. Michael Werwigk became a Director in 2009 and was promoted to Managing Director in 2023.

During his career, he has been significantly involved in the realization of important cultural and educational buildings, including the cultural center Gasteig HP8 Isarphilharmonie in Munich, the music school and concert hall in Ventspils and the National Park Center Ruhestein in Baiersbronn. In addition, several projects in modular or composite construction, including the KIT Employees’ Restaurant on the Campus North in Karlsruhe, the Extension experimenta and the Josef Schwarz School in Heilbronn, have won a number of renowned awards.
