Congratulations Rudolf Bergermann!

In honor of Rudolf Bergermann’s 80th birthday

schlaich bergermann partner congratulates Rudolf Bergermann, who celebrates his 80th birthday today! After studying civil engineering at the University of Stuttgart and working as an engineer for Leonhardt & Andrä, he founded together with Jörg Schlaich the office Schlaich + Partner in 1980. Today, he still works as a consulting engineer for schlaich bergermann partner.

In his more than 60 years as an engineer and partner, he can look back on many impressive global projects – bridges such as the Second Hooghly River Bridge in Calcutta, the Ting Kau Bridge in Hong Kong or the Khor al Batah road bridge in Oman bear his signature. Countless stadium roofs, such as the cable net construction of the Olympic Stadium in Munich, the membrane roof of the Gottlieb Daimler Stadium in Stuttgart (today the Mercedes-Benz Arena) or the roof of the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh are the pioneers of many of our stadium projects worldwide. Many movable structures, like the roofs of the Roman Arena Nimes, the Olympic Stadium in Montreal or the arcade court in the Vienna City Hall are other important projects he worked on.

The research on and the development of the solar updraft tower as well as the generation of electricity by solar energy have always been his concern together with Jörg Schlaich.
