First prize for pedestrian and cycle bridge in Heidelberg

schlaich bergermann partner is delighted to have won the first prize in the competition for a new pedestrian and cycle bridge in Heidelberg, Germany.

Our interdisciplinary team with LAVA (Laboratory for Visionary Architecture) and Latz + Partner proposed an elegant and unobtrusive bridge design over the river Neckar. Not only does it feature various recreational areas above the water, but also offers corresponding qualities in the surrounding park area along the riverbank. The jury especially praised the “grand curved gesture” of the bridge, which connects the three locations that were part of the competition task.

Launched by the City of Heidelberg and IBA Heidelberg back in October 2018, the competition saw 14 bridge designs in the first stage from interdisciplinary and mostly international teams. Last May, the jury selected five to enter the second stage. Last week, the final decision was made.

We are very pleased about the result and congratulate everyone involved.
