sbp on winning team in Bosque Metropolitano competition

schlaich bergermann partner is part of the winning team for one part of the Bosque Metropolitano (Metropolitan Forest) ideas competition by the Municipality of Madrid, Spain. sbp’s branch office in Madrid entered the competition alongside LOLA Landscape Architects, Volterra Ecosystems, Burgos y Garrido Arquitectos, David Moreno Cano and Blank Exhibitions.

Bosque Metropolitano is a long-term project that seeks to create an extraordinary 74km-long green belt around the city of Madrid in the upcoming twelve years. Occupying the entire perimeter of the Spanish capital, it is set to serve as a “green lung” for the city with hundreds of thousands of newly planted trees, parks, open spaces, trails and green bridges.

For the competition, the massive project was divided into five parts. The winning proposal for part 1, “Entre montes naturales” (Between natural mountains) is called “Tiempo de Silencio”. It covers the northwestern part of the green belt, connecting the Pardo, Valdelatas and Casa de Campo mountains.

schlaich bergermann partner is happy to contribute to this extraordinary project as the structural engineers on the winning team and is looking forward to the next steps. Congratulations to everyone involved!
