Experimenta Science Center in Heilbronn

The Experimenta Science Center opened in 2009 in a former warehouse by the River Neckar in Heilbronn, Germany. The objective was to make the natural sciences and technology accessible to all the senses for visitors of any age. The popularity of this “world of learning and experience” led to a design competition for an expansion building being held in 2013.The winning design by architects Sauerbruch Hutton resulted in the new building presently being completed. With a floor area of about 18,000 m2, it was conceived as a spiral of sequenced spaces that twists upwards around a central atrium, taking the visitor through a variety of rooms offering selective views of the city and the surrounding vineyards.
