We feel incredibly proud that the light rail bridge has won another important award. Yesterday evening it received this year’s German Bridge Construction Award in the category of road and rail bridges.
During the award ceremony at the Technical University of Dresden, Federal Minister Dr. Volker Wissing presented the award to the project team. Board Member Andreas Keil and Director Lorenz Haspel accepted the award on behalf of the sbp team. In their laudatory speech, the jury emphasized that the use of carbon hangers has given network arch bridges a real boost in their design development. The award was also presented for the meticulous planning and accompanying research that made the outstanding engineering achievement possible. Thus, the structure makes a valuable contribution to resource-saving construction.
In the category of pedestrian and cycle bridges, the jury recognized the design of the Mühlensteg in Besigheim, another project by sbp, for its technical precision – coupled with the courage to deal with complex load-bearing behavior and a highly creative and sensitive approach to the nearby town and the surrounding nature.
Since 2006, the German Bridge Construction Award has been presented every two years by the Federal Chamber of Engineers and the Association of Consulting Engineers VBI for outstanding civil engineering achievements. Further information on the award-winning projects and the prize can be found here.
This is already the third award for the light rail bridge. In the summer of 2022, the light rail bridge was already awarded the German Engineering Award, and internationally it received the “Award for research-informed innovation of novel high-performance material” at the Structural Awards 2022.
