After more than 10 years of planning, the groundbreaking ceremony for the House of One was celebrated yesterday in Berlin. schlaich bergermann partner is commissioned with the check engineering of the unique house of prayer and teaching. Planned by the architects of Kuehn Malvezzi, the building unites the three big monotheistic world religions under one roof. It is being built on the historic grounds of a church destroyed during war. This situation challenged planers and checking engineers in the structural design.
In the basement storey, the archeological findings will be open to the public, while on the upper storey the three prayer rooms are arranged around a large domed hall. This is where exchange and encounters are to take place. Construction is scheduled to begin this year.
