The engineering offices schlaich bergermann partner, CALTER ingeniería, and FULCRUM worked closely together on this project. Our Madrid office will now provide the technical assistance during the construction together with TYPSA. The bridge will span 430 meters and allows pedestrians and cyclists a direct and safe connection of the two riverbanks. The bridge is supported by twelve pillars, with two sections movable above the river to allow for continued shipping traffic on the river.

With a width of six meters, the bridge provides sufficient space for pedestrians and cyclists. Both areas are separated from each other by centrally positioned steel sails as well as urban furniture. The new bridge over the river thus creates new urban spaces with a high quality of stay.

The Barakaldo-Erandio movable pedestrian bridge not only improves the local mobility, but its shape also makes it a highly symbolic architectural landmark.
