The science center experimenta in Heilbronn, Germany, was officially opened on Thursday. The sculptural new building was designed by Sauerbruch Hutton architects. schlaich bergermann parter provided the structural engineering for the geometrically-challenging structure.
The architecture of the building itself plays an important part in the exhibition, enabling the audience to change perspectives during the visit. The building’s five pentagonal shaped stories are twisted and stacked on top of each other.
At the opening ceremony, Winfried Kretschmann, Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg, delivered the speech in front of 300 invited guests. Afterwards, the visitors were given an exclusive first glimpse of the new building.
The science center will open its doors to the public on March 31. In addition to fascinating experiments and exhibits, visitors will then also find an exciting structure, which will become a formative part of the exhibition.
